Bed Wetting – Dealing with Childhood Common Pediatric Problem

Understanding Bed Wetting In Kids
Before we try and understand the treatment for pediatric bed wetting, we should realize the fact that it is a very common phenomenon. Usually in a normal child by the age of three they reach what is called an adult pattern.

In this situation, the child is in a position to identify the need to urinate outside the bed and usually wakes up. But very commonly, the child is not able to exercise this control and this is what is called bed wetting. It has been found out that 1 out of 5 children suffer from problems associated with pediatric bed wetting.

Reasons for Bed Wetting.
Though the reason for this problem is not very easy to understand and pin point it has been found out that this problem is more prevalent among boys than girls, which again is mysterious and not very easy to understand.

At the age of seven, as per some studies conducted, it has been found out that almost 25% of boys suffer from the problem of pediatric bed wetting, while in girl child it is only around 15% to 17%. Bed wetting usually disappears when the child reaches the age of ten.
Bed Wetting
Beyond this age is the problem still persists, it could be called a severe problems which might require further investigation and examination.

Should pediatric be called for counseling?
This is a common question which encounters the parents whenever they find their boy or girl child going through with this problem. More of than not, parents consider pediatric bed wetting as a passing phenomenon which requires no medical or other intervention.

While this is perhaps right, it could always be better to consider taking some help to try and understand if there is any other serious underlying cause which results in such bed wetting.

Looking at the child and from the stand point of its self-esteem, it is very essential that this problem be discussed with a good pediatrician so that he could examine the child and rule out any serious problem that may require immediate medical attention.

Remember, as the child grows up, bed-wetting has a psychological effect on it and if the child’s friends come to know about it, it could cause serious emotional and other problems on the child. He or she would then become very withdrawn or show some aggressive behavior.

How to Treat Pediatric bed wetting?
There are some very common natural ways by which this problem can be controlled. Some of them include keeping a close watch on the child’s food and drinking habits which may be a major cause of pediatric child wetting.

Encouraging a child to drink a lot of fluids in the day time and slowly tapering it off over the evening and night could be one effective method of controlling this problem naturally.

Also, encouraging the child to go to the toilet before bed is one of the most common things that could be done to prevent it from wetting the bed during the night. If all these do not work, then it might require some medical intervention and the best person to decide on the same would be without doubt your family physician.
